Some information and advice for PIA walkers/hikers
SIGNING UP:
In order to keep as flexible as possible, it is not necessary to pre-enrol. Just meet up with the group on the day, time and place of the chosen hike that is mentioned on the blog. If it is your first time, please fill out the questionnaire (downloadable from the blog and at the end of this file) and either e mail it to me or bring it along with you.
MEETING PLACE:
Please be on time at the meeting point, because this year we will not be waiting for latecomers! If you are afraid that you are going to be late, you can buy your transport tickets beforehand. Meeting points are always in
are always on the platform of the train in front of the first carriage. In order to save time, please buy 2 tickets “aller” and “retour” at your metro station and use the “aller” ticket to meet us at the RER or SNCF station. For general and price information as well as itineraries you may consult the following sites:

JUST IN CASE:
Unfortunately, it is possible that a hike is not going to take place for various reasons; bad weather, strike, sickness, unplanned event for your loyal guide (please let me know if you are willing to replace me in case of a temporary emergency on my part). So please check the blog the evening before the walk to double-check that it is actually going to take place.
You should perhaps plan an alternative solution in case for some unexpected reason you cannot be at school at the end of the day to pick up your child/children.
RECOMMENDED MATERIAL/GEAR:
- Ankle high hiking boots: this almost indispensable "investment" can avoid dangerous skids! You can buy them at GO SPORT or DECATHLON.
- hiking socks without seams
- comfortable clothes
- a knapsack with a picnic lunch including a drink, a snack to regain strength after a pause, a plastic bag for rubbish (never to be left behind), a plastic to sit on during the breaks, a cape with hood in case of strong showers (downpours) (the really cheap tourist ones are good and light) and a plaster (band aid) in case of blisters…
- A little bit of money in case we have to pay an entrance fee
PACE:
The hikes / walks are accessible to all without any advance training or preparation. Figure that we will walk 3 to 5 hours per outing. The average pace will be about 4km per hour. Naturally, we will adapt ourselves to the group! Don’t hesitate to request a break! As a rule (in principle), we’ll have a lunch break and another one according to the topography of the land (ground) or the length of the hike /walk.
EXPENSES:
There will be a minimal charge of 10 euros per walk per participant.
RESPONSIBILITY (LIABILITY)
Each hiker is under his/her own responsibility (liability)! The *EABJM*, the
Good hike/walk to all of you!
